Did you know stressed spelled backwards is desserts?!

Finally, everyone. Finally. It's a beautiful thing. The mecca. The temple. The holy! (I completely geeked out.) A few more photos at my flickr.

So I'm a little behind in the times, but I finally saw South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut. It was made in 1999. Count it, kids. That's 8 years ago. Holy!

I was expecting something vulgar and ballsy, but it was actually tastefully done (in the most tasteful "South Park" manner). It was ballsy, yeah, but it eerily portrayed the world today. A lot has happened since 1999 and it was almost bizarre watching the film from this point in time. Dare I say it was kind of insightful? So bizarre, so bizarre.

Anyway, I liked it. I never really got into "South Park", I have to admit. I've seen a select few episodes and laughed my pants off everytime. I'm always stunned at how daring the show is; the violence that happens makes me go, "Oh my god!" And then laugh in disbelief. I have to give props to Trey Parker and Matt Stone for doing what they do. They get away with a lot of stuff but hey man, we laugh 'cause it's mostly true.

The nominee list: I'm really glad Little Miss Sunshine is getting recognition but where's Children of Men? It has 3 nods for best adapted screenplay, cinematography, and film editing. I thought Alfonso Cuarón had the potential for best director and the film itself for best picture. But it's great that the smaller films are getting recognized like Letters from Iwo Jima, The Queen, Little Children, and The Last King of Scotland. Big blockbusters aren't always the best! (In your face, Dreamgirls!)

I wrote down a quote from Rachel's blog a while back and I (still) really like it: "He said the only thing that's important is if you're living the way you really, honestly want to live." I've been following it lately, trying not to think about a certain someone too much. (I kind of veered off that this weekend by stopping by too many times; sometimes I wonder if I'm being too annoying.) I rarely, rarely talk about my personal life, even in person. It's something I like to keep to myself but every now and then, it slips into my writing. So I guess this'll be the one entry I talk about it.

So back to the quote. I've been doing my own thing and going about my business. I feel pretty good for the most part but whenever I pause for moment, I think about him. I don't want to nag at it; I don't want to be too annoying. When you like someone, you get all nervous and do/say stupid things. You're clumsy mentally and emotionally. So I make pacts with myself to go a week without thinking about or seeing him. Is that strange? I don't know. I don't ever know. For sure, I am not good at the language of love.

Sometime last year I concluded that the universe is against me being happy for extended periods of time, that it can only be fleeting moments. That sounds completely ridiculous but all the times that something in my life goes right, immediately something bad happens to counter it. I think that's why films, TV shows, material possessions and so on are made: just for those fleeting moments of happiness. I can be slap happy for 2 hours in the dark with strangers or for a half hour living vicariously through those characters on screen.

Anyway, I suppose if something's meant to happen, it will. If not, that's okay. We're friends first and foremost. A good friend of mine said that she admired my ability to let go and be okay with things. I don't know how I do that, but I can. I guess that's a good thing in the end.

"My Musical" is quite possibly one of the best 'Scrubs' episodes.

There's always some tanning company that advertises during the winter. Who goes tanning in the winter? It's cold, you're all bundled up, and there's really nothing to show. (Or is there...?) Everyone is pale and pasty. Let us rejoice in the paleness with our rosy cheeks, red noses and ears.

I'm a regular at the local deli and Dunkin' Donuts. I order what I usually order (or sometimes I'll mix it up when I feel adventurous!) and say my thank you's and smile. Every now and then small talk is made but it's mostly grab and go. During that time when I'm waiting for my order, I often wonder what it's like seeing us, the regulars, coming and going almost everyday. Do they have a story pieced together from those brief moments we're there? I'm tempted to ask but not knowing is more fun. I wonder what my story is...

"It automatically calls your best friend when you need a what-what." Haha! Fred Armisen is spot on. (via Blurbomat)

1. Cream cheese with jelly or jam: gross or delicious?
Delicious! Everyone thinks I'm weird when I do that combo. Try it if you haven't. I guarantee it's good.

2. Toilet paper: over or under?
I prefer over the top, but I can deal with it going under.

3. Hot apple cider: with or without whipped cream?
My friend thinks the Starbucks hot apple cider + whipped cream combo is gross but I think it's quite good once it melts and mixes with the cider. That and the caramel makes it tastier.

4. Chili: with or without sour cream?
With sour cream, though in small doses.

5. Phrase: "So's your face!" or "Your mom!"?
So's your face!

It's snowing! I can't believe it's snowing! It's only a little bit, but it's snowing!

(few minutes later) Okay, now it stopped. But it snowed!

Not to geek out or anything but hi, iPhone and appletv. And I thought the motion desktop in Microsoft Vista was pretty cool. Look at that iPhone. It's so pretty. That interface, that design, that...! It's going to be super-expensive, $499 for 4GB and $599 for 8GB with Cingular as its provider (via Kottke), but the loyal Mac users will be there.

Steve Jobs just keeps the goodies coming! I'm eagerly waiting for the keynote to come online so I can watch it. (I watched Bill Gates' keynote yesterday, which was okay.) Too excited! Until then, there's the Macworld update and Engadget's coverage (with photos!).

Plus, new iTunes ads.

I was walking down the street with my friend when fate happened. A poster of the Night at the Museum fell from the phone booths. The plastic holding it in popped off and the poster was hanging on for dear life. We looked at each other and stopped. We were just talking about the film.

"Take it!"

"You take it!"

I took the storage bins from her as she glanced around. There was a Starbucks right there with, I just know it, people looking out the window. And in one quick move, she snatched it and we walked away as quickly as possible.

So there we were, riding the subway with big storage bins and a huge poster of the Night at the Museum.

"Amy, who are we?"

"The best thieves ever."

Just for the record, between all the laughter, I cried a bit during "The Office" last night. Oh, Pam. It'll be okay... right?

For months I've let this book, Yes Man, sit around and collect dust. I never found the time to properly read it. But I finally got around to it and finished just before midnight on New Year's Eve. And I have to tell you, this book had me in stitches. It's completely offbeat and charming. (I bought it on a whim in London a few months ago.) While it's no War & Peace, it really hits upon something I should do more: "Say Yes more." Three simple words.

Of course, I wouldn't take it to the extreme Danny Wallace did... or would I? After reading the book, I noticed that I do say no a lot. I find myself making excuses to decline invitations and choose to stay in rather than go out. It's not that I don't like going out; I just prefer the comfort of staying in. Like Danny. But staying in all the time means life flies by with missed opportunities and experiences. I'm the one standing outside the window watching this amazing party go on.

So as I finished the book before the new year, I thought to myself, "I'm going to say Yes more." I'm going to be a Yes Woman. Carpe diem, baby. Seize the day.

Danny Wallace, you're about to change my life.
