![]() Happy Halloween! I think my favorite costume I saw today was a guy as the Rubik's Cube. The funniest was a guy dressed up as Amy Winehouse with the signature beehive and a wifebeater with the word "Rehab" crossed out on it. I laughed for an entire block after I saw him. Oh, people. ![]() - Breakfast (photos of people & their breakfasts) - Painting 8: Tell me something - How does it feel to die? - Brooklyn doctor opens IM practice: OMG! You've got cancer :( - Surface navigation help for subway riders (this is good for everyone) - FCU with Bill Murray ("Fact: I just grazed her right boob.") (Previously: Lists, part 4) ![]() Being constantly surrounded by pessimism really changes your perception on life. It becomes this fog, and no matter how hard you try to find your way, nothing works: a flashlight makes it worse, a hand may not be the one who can guide you, a voice from every direction, anything, anyone. But sometimes that one optimistic outlook can turn it all around. So thank you for taking time out to talk over some tea. Thank you for putting me back in place. Thank you for your stories. Thank you. Your kindness has meant more than you know. This made my day and it hasn't even started, lol. Did I watch Star Trek: The Next Generation? Maybe. Do I love it when I can say "make it so" in real life? Absolutely. ![]() I mentioned here briefly that I have a thing for mugs (and flashlights). My mug collection is now currently at 3: a striped mug from a thrift store in England, a Woxy mug (no longer sold), and now this Starbucks mug. I'm not a big coffee person, nor am I a Starbucks person. I do prefer tea and Dunkin' Donuts (I love those blueberry doughnuts). But I won't lie that I've been eyeing this mug for a while now because 1) it looks like the cups from Starbucks and 2) it's nice and tall with an elegant handle, making it easy to cradle in your hands. At any rate, I was at a Starbucks today with a friend when I saw it hanging on the shelf. The price had gone down since I last looked a few months ago so, uh, I bought it! And I love it! I think it's my new favorite mug. I'm really tempted to check off some of the boxes on the side. Do you have a favorite mug? ![]() Last night's Office was really heartfelt (and good like it always is!). I just... Dwight is awesome. I've been feeling really bad for him the past few episodes and yesterday sealed the deal. It's nice to see characters unlike their usual selves. He wasn't Dwight; he was human and vulnerable. Jim's little talk was great and afterwards, I was like, "YES! Dwight's back!!" Also, I felt bad for Michael, shouldering the burdens; I feel like Jan's got to go but, it was nice at the end. Meanwhile, Jim & Pam are just as cute as ever. ![]() Taking a cue from Andrea, I also ask: what would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? ![]() Can I just say that I'm really enjoying this weather? Low 60's, low humidity, and that nice Fall breeze. Anyway, that nice Fall breeze lead me to a brisk walk the other day, and I ended up in the children's section of Barnes & Noble. I was talking with friends about our favorite children's books the day before and I got nostalgic. So I sat myself down, picked out all the books I could remember and read through them. My favorites were all the Chris van Allsburg books because his illustrations always transported me into his magical worlds. Goodnight Moon always made me drift off into a nice, relaxed sleep (I actually got a little woozy reading it). But my all-time favorite children's book? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. If you haven't heard of it, the next time you go to the bookstore, sit down and read this little story about the town of Chewandswallow. It'll make you a little hungry. While we're on food, I had dinner at Justin Timberlake's restaurant, Southern Hospitality, yesterday night. I wasn't expecting some fancy-schmancy restaurant but more of a hanging out kind of place paying homage to his Tennessee. And it was just that. Holy cow, it was a lot of food and deep fried pickles? Surprisingly good. ![]() Seen: a woman sitting on the sidewalk with a sign saying, "Live politely." I went to see the Arcade Fire yesterday night and wow, they're really good live. And crazy, but that's what I love about them. They just go nuts on stage with the instruments. This is my favorite photo of the night. Don't they look like zombies? (More photos) 'Cause I was even more convinced upon seeing the mass exodus after the concert; it felt like I was in a zombie horror movie with the amount of people slowly moving in the same direction. Anyway, I took a short video (see above) when they played "Wake Up." Note the girl rockin' out in front of me. Let me tell you, there are all sorts of dancers out there and I applaud their own interpretations of the beat. (I swear, I saw a girl dancing like Elaine from Seinfeld.) For me, I usually stand there, tapping my foot and bobbing my head to the music. How do you "rock out" at concerts? ![]() I used to love the look of new shoes: shiny, untouched, and ready to be shown off to the world. As the years went by, I started to like that look less and less. I think it was that quote, that the look of shoes show how adventurous or cautious, or how difficult or easy your life is. If your shoes looked virtually untouched, it meant an easy and cautious life; torn and tattered meant a difficult and adventurous life. So now whenever I buy new shoes (once a year... crazy, right?), I immediately need to get them dirty whether it be jumping in a puddle of mud or purposely walking through street grime. It feels like I'm cheating but it doesn't feel right to have such clean shoes. And it's not to say my shoes won't get torn and tattered; all of my shoes are either almost falling apart or just really worn in (except the dress shoes because they actually have to remain nice). Plus, I get a little embarrassed when I wear new shoes because it's obvious that I just got a new pair. It's like, "Hey-o, buddy! New digs? I'll keep staring, don't mind me." ![]() As you might've heard, Radiohead's latest album, In Rainbows, will be out in 8 days. (The first since 2003's Hail to the Thief!) It'll be available in an actual album form for £40 (a complete "discbox" set with a plethora of goodies) or as a digital download with a price defined by you. So yes, you can pay absolutely nothing for it if you'd like. It's all up to you. And I think that's completely awesome. They're embracing the new music movement. Sure, some people will pay nothing but at least the music will be heard, and that's what Radiohead wants. Most of all, I think they realize that piracy can't really be stopped no matter how hard the music industry tries. Being a big Radiohead fan, I paid £5 ($10) for it. I'm really excited. (Yes, I do realize I paid $10 and it's being released on 10/10.) |
