![]() I used to love the look of new shoes: shiny, untouched, and ready to be shown off to the world. As the years went by, I started to like that look less and less. I think it was that quote, that the look of shoes show how adventurous or cautious, or how difficult or easy your life is. If your shoes looked virtually untouched, it meant an easy and cautious life; torn and tattered meant a difficult and adventurous life. So now whenever I buy new shoes (once a year... crazy, right?), I immediately need to get them dirty whether it be jumping in a puddle of mud or purposely walking through street grime. It feels like I'm cheating but it doesn't feel right to have such clean shoes. And it's not to say my shoes won't get torn and tattered; all of my shoes are either almost falling apart or just really worn in (except the dress shoes because they actually have to remain nice). Plus, I get a little embarrassed when I wear new shoes because it's obvious that I just got a new pair. It's like, "Hey-o, buddy! New digs? I'll keep staring, don't mind me." Hi, my name is Amy. Be well, and say hello!

I have two pairs of shoes right now, which is still weird to me. They're both, embarrassingly(?), pretty clean and well-kept.
I'm not particularly fastidious in shoe upkeep; I guess I just have a boring life.
Would it vindicate me somewhat if I said that my previous pair is too paint-splattered for daily use (and the pair before that, the end of the shoelaces had electric tape at the end...I went through a phase)?
Nah, you don't have a boring life! I'm not judging anyone by the looks of their shoes; it's just a personal thing for me.
But paint-splattered shoes are pretty awesome!
Once a year? Not crazy! I haven't bought a new pair of shoes...probably in three years, which is probably more of a sign of me no longer growing.
I feel the same way about shoes... you know I'm never without a pair of hiking boots, but I always feel cringy about wearing them out in public until I have a chance to actually, you know, use them. Otherwise, it's just like... an SUV.
i like worn shoes too. but not when they're so dirty they attract city rats. i hate those disgusting creatures x_x
