The other night, after catching up with some good old friends during this nice holiday, I found myself driving alone in the night. It was just me and the road and Bruce Springsteen blaring on the car speakers. I slowed to a stop at a traffic light and, I don't know why, but I looked up. The stars were shining brightly; it was the first time I had seen them in a while. It's a lost cause looking for them in the city, though I often forget to look anyway. And it reminded me how I forget how wonderful it is being home, being away from that chaos and being here in the quietness with family and old friends. Despite finding a "new life" in the city, I'm reminded of the good times here, how things really are, how humbling it can all be. This is where I came from, and I will never forget that. I smiled as I heard the familiar harmonica play from the beginning of "Thunder Road." As if on cue, the light turned green and I cranked up Bruce.

Hey, what else can we do now
Except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's bustin' open, these two lanes will take us anywhere

I hear ya. Back in high school, I would never have thought I'd take so much joy in coming back to this place... but this is family, friends, and home.

There's no place like home right?

I just wrote a post kind of like this (although, of course, you beat me in simplicity and brevity)...it's much easier to appreciate where you came from after you've been away for awhile. Of course, my return home was (inevitably) spoiled by family drama, but I still have a slight tweak of nostalgic longing in me.

Hi, my name is Amy. Be well, and say hello!
