![]() 2007 List of a Mélange of Things or LOAMOT: 1. Best film: Ratatouille Food and Paris? Of course! This film surpassed all my expectations and is now my favorite Pixar film. The theme of being torn between family obligation and individual ambition is something that rings true. I think Brad Bird is a genius, and I look forward to seeing Wall-E. » Runners-up: Lars and the Real Girl, Helvetica 2. Best album: Ryan Adams, "Easy Tiger" I think this is Ryan Adam's best album: consistent and cohesive. It harks back to the days of "Heartbreaker" and "Gold", 2 of my favorite albums by him. It's melancholic yet cathartic and... I don't think words can do it justice. The best description is from Filter magazine: "These are tunes about things falling apart, or else just fading away, as we grow older -- passion, romance, hopes, dreams. It's an album about being damaged, albeit beautifully so." » Runners-up: Bruce Springsteen, "Magic", Radiohead, "In Rainbows" 3. Best book: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows "Look... at... me." And with those words, my heart broke and my mind raced. It's rare these days to have a book that can transport you so deep into another world, and I stand by this: Harry Potter is one of the best modern fantasy series ever written. Never have I felt for such characters (oh, Severus Snape) and wanted to see this magical world. It was a good end to this story and adventure, and I will be re-reading these books again and again. » Runner-up: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (read in 2007) 4. Best TV show: The Office This show is still solid gold despite the abrupt end due to the writer's strike (will it come back?!). The jokes and hilarious events keep getting funnier, and the references back to older seasons seal its status as a popular cult following with an awesome fan base (hello, Office Convention!). Jim and Pam continue happily without being too exhaustive but just... normal. Which is why they are so likeable. And perhaps my all-time favorite cold opener is the one with the DVD box bouncing around on the TV. Don't deny it; you know we all secretly hope it bounces into that corner perfectly, too. » Runner-up: Pushing Daisies 5. Best moment: These days It's been an odd year (really, it has), what with its ups and downs. I'm not complaining, but rather, I'm grateful for the things that have happened to me. I'll say, it's been an eye-opening year perhaps making me a little less scared and a little more sure with myself. These days have showed me that. So I bid you adieu, 2007. Thanks for the lessons learned and memories had. » Next year: Hopefully a spring in my step and a better head on my shoulders. Onward I will go and wherever life takes me, it takes me. I look forward to it! I hope to be more kind and thoughtful of others, no matter how they may be. No one's perfect, especially not me. Here's to 2008! (Previously: 2006 LOAMOT)

![]() "Don't you have to...?" I said as we walked past the subway station. "Oh, right..." He replied, lingering on the thought. We stopped at the next entrance. "Well, I gotta..." He pulled out a pack of Camel cigarettes. As if on cue, I said, "Can I get a hug before you...?" As much as I'd like to say I've gotten used to the smell of cigarettes after living in this city for so long, I still can't get used to it. I've tolerated it more than I used to, but I have a feeling that it'll always be a long shot on my favorite smells list. He smiled and pulled me in. He held me tightly, not too tightly, but tightly enough. It was a hug I hadn't had in a very long time. I wanted to feel it, let it sink in. After a moment, I stepped back and said, "Well, I hope you have a merry Christmas and a happy new year. I'll see ya around." He smiled and said, "Thank you." I smiled back and crossed the street, away from what used to be.

![]() In the wintry mix turned rain, I trekked over to the new Apple Store in the Meatpacking District. It's really nice and gosh, I really love that signature spiral staircase. Super-J and I worked our way up the 3 floors. I hadn't held the new Nanos until now and wow, they're thinner than I thought! We ended up playing Math Blaster at the kiddie station for an hour. Let me tell you, I was reliving my childhood! Did any of you play that game back in grammar school? I remember playing on the old school Macs way back then. The game has come a long way; the graphics for it were pretty good. Anyway, here's a little tidbit: if your earbuds start dying (or die), you can trade them in for new ones at the store. The white casing around the wires was coming apart on mine, and the sound was bouncing back and forth between the buds because of that. Now I have new ones at no extra cost! Pretty sweet deal, I'll say. So 3 Apple Stores in New York...

![]() When you miss someone, do you miss the person or just the idea of that person? Do you ever wonder if people would only miss the idea of you if you just picked up and left? I don't think it's terribly sad, but I wonder.

![]() I keep bumping into people, I accidentally knocked over some things in a store, and I pretty much missed my plate when I was transferring my food from the pan. It's just one of those days.

![]() When I checked the weather yesterday, it said snow showers for today, and I thought, "No way! December just started!" Sure enough, when I woke up this morning, it was snowing. Can you believe it? I managed to go out for some groceries this morning, snapping some quick photos along the way. I admit, it's always fun walking around in the snow. But then again, I actually like cold weather. Is that weird? Probably. Oh, it's snowing again. Anyway, my friend and I were talking about how Fall never really happened. It's been this odd fluctuation of warm to cool to cold to warm again. Suddenly, we're thrust into Winter and, at least I am, left scratching my head wondering what in the world just happened. I have a feeling that Spring won't quite happen either and that we'll be left with the extreme seasons and never the in betweens. Which makes me a little sad because I love the in between seasons the best. Man, Al Gore was right.
