![]() The grains of sand pecked at my ankles as I made my way towards the water. The waves were roaring and crashing with a fury, as if they were saying, "This is for you, Summer!" Many were in sweatshirts, some were brave enough to wear swimsuits. It was the last weekend of summer and everyone was squeezing in some beach time before Autumn eased itself in. Very few were in the water; most of us were walking along the shoreline, just enjoying it before everything got cold again. I tentatively dipped my feet into the water only to find that it was surprisingly warm. The cool and windy conditions were a tease. I continued to walk, splashing water all around my legs. The waves kept pulling me in as I tried to pull away. "Come in, come in," they said to me. I shook my head and said, "I can't, I can't." By the time I neared the end, I looked back and saw dark clouds rolling in. It was time to go. I stamped my feet on the boardwalk, shaking the sand loose from my legs and feet. The wind came in strong gusts; I pushed against it, trying to make my way back. I turned off the main road and walked on a side road instead. The houses blocked some of the wind as I managed to tuck back my unkempt hair. It was quiet. The roar of the ocean grew farther and farther away until all I heard were the eerie sounds of wind chimes. I looked up and saw the dark clouds continue to move in. The wind kicked up again, and suddenly I felt like I was in movie, as if something was about the happen. I quickened my pace, hoping to reach the main road again. I finally heard the pleasant sounds of chatter, and I breathed a sigh of relief. It was really time to go. Goodbye, summer. |
